THE BIG GUY VS. THE LITTLE GUY
If you check any recent classified ad, you will inevitably
see one for “Carpet Cleaners Wanted” Even
when jobs are scarce, there never seems to be enough
qualified carpet technicians - to the point that large
corporations, who must rely on hired help, often hire
anyone with a good driving record. A good driving record
will be of little assistance when they are in your living
room treating a stain from your dog or investigating
what might work to remove wine from last night’s
|We get calls from potential customers
asking for a price to clean their carpet. We ask
a few qualifying questions and give them a price.
Their further questions are, “do you charge
extra for this? Will you come out and ask more
for that?” We laugh and tell them that we
have been doing this for quite a while and if
there were any differing condition when we get
there, we hold our price because it’s the
right thing to do.
We will not try and win people over with coupons
or specials. We have no fine print, nor will we
charge extra for stains or deodorizers; items
that should naturally be required to clean your
carpet! Large corporations that have ads in print
and television have significant overhead, have
a large customer base and are constantly in need
of quality people to perform the work. Which brings
us to wonder what kind of people show up to come
into your home, handle your personal items and
give you advice?
The definition of an owner/operator is one in which
the owner personally represents and oversees all of
the work. There is very little similarity between running
a successful owner/operator business and owning a successful
company in which all the work is performed by employees.
As much as Adam and I tended to shy away when asked
how large our business was, because in social circles
it is perceived that “bigger is better”, we
have now realized through weathering the economic storm
that it is with pride that we say that we are a small
business. A successfully surviving small business who
cares about our customers and personally takes care
of each and every one. We do not welcome the headache
of expansion. We have a small staff of good friends
and family on call to help when the jobs are large.
In this time when less is becoming more, we have become
happier in making the honest buck vs. marketing schemes
and the goal of making it big. Because of this and Adam’s
30 years of experience, we will not be out-cleaned by
someone’s new hire nor will our customers fall
prey to a circular ad that will ultimately lead to someone
buying something extra.
To all of our loyal
customers over the years
We sympathize with you during these trying economic
times. Our friends are losing their jobs and their homes.
They were auto engineers and advertising professionals.
A construction company I regretted leaving a few years
ago to run this carpet cleaning business, now has a
skeleton crew. I feel less regret now and more in control
of our own humble surroundings. Humble is my choice
word for thankful and surviving. We remain very thankful
for our health (mental & physical), the roof over
our head and our loyal customers like you. Over the
years we have watched your kids grow up, we’ve
helped your aging parents and have been god-sent on
a few occasions with your emergencies. The feel-good
satisfaction and your appreciation that we get from
our experiences in your homes and offices is worth more
than our fee.
We have been in business for 10 years and, humbly, we
are an owner/operator that gives you the same great
service for the same fair price every time. We have
not raised our prices since we started our business
in 2002. We plan to stand by you because we are flattered,
time and time again, when you stand by us.
